If you’re Kenyan please you must avoid political campaigns. This is an appeal that leaders should stop campaigning after being elected. After Elections, Leaders should be satisfied and concentrate on providing leadership and progression for their people. All leadership issues should be handled in Parliament and avoid consulting the people for advise Fellow Kenyans, today I address you in regards to elections, war mongering and being a refugee.
We still have the tired and pathetic line of Raila winning will cause war or Uhuru not winning will bring violence. War and violence from whom against who? The war and violence will only be there if you are part of it is so widespread that the security forces are unable to contain the situation. If you do not take part in violence as an individual, the police force has adequate capacity to handle breaches of the law from those who will wish to try it out.
How do you do so? Because you know you are sharing information and stereotypes that are extremely wrong.
Why do you share it? Because it makes you feel superior because of your thumbs, teeth and tribe.
Why share it with caution? Because you are ashamed of what you are doing.
Why don’t you speak out against the videos and hate messages in those groups that literally need balls to make that decision and that leaving the group will annoy the little gods of your tribesmen. We need to come out from this situation of limiting ourselves; we must focus for our dreams of success!
Let me clarify a few facts about war.
- That war that you think will be streamed live on facebook using your phone will be live in our eyes. You won’t have a phone to begin with . If you will it will have power, you will not have calling credit on it. If you have credit , there will be no connection. So, no phone.
- You imagine that you will hide in your house and some humanitarian organization will arrive in a chopper to extract you by landing on your roof. No. We don’t extract people Sir. You will not have a house, it won’t be there. It will be blown open in war. Watch international news on Syria, Libya, Somalia, Yemen etc. Those structures that you imagine that have been unearthed by archeologist were homes a few months ago. Yours will looks no different.
- You are already planning to park your car with a full tank of fuel to drive into a neighbouring country. You won’t drive anything my dear. You will run, you will hide, you will trek. Not to kitengela and Namanga but for hundreds or thousands of kms. Refuges do not arrive in their host countries while while driving. They arrive walking. You will arrive walking. Ask me for details.
- You have a stock in your fridge of several food items to keep you running for some couple of months. No. war don’t run for a couple of months. That is a riot. A small problem the police can handle. You won’t be trekking with you incognito to seek peace elsewhere too. They won’t be waering any uniforms. You will wear the same cloth from your first day to the day you find refuge. You will soil it, you will wet it but you won’t remove it. The power will be unavailable and all that food stock you imagine having will be spoilt in the fridge in 36 hours.
- You have a suitcase of clothes that you will change as yiou run to look for peace. He he he he you won’t even have energy to carry your kin drop dead along the way as you run to look for peace. They will rot by the roadsides as life remains for the fleeing while alive. You will separate from your family and children in that trek and never see or connect with them for the rest of your life. Ask me again how we have worked with staff who comes to work with all their belongings on their backs, in a back pack weighing barely 5 kilos. And you imagine that change of underwear is a priority luggage. Not even a toothpaste will be.
- You are probably imagining how you will be settled by the beaches of Dar es salaam or Mwanza and along the shores of Lake Victoria. Hapana ! No. Ever been to kakuma Refuge Camp? Ask me again what I felt the first time I visted the place in 2009 I think The host country will decide where to place a camp for you. I can assure you it will be quite isolated. When was the last time you used a latrine to excrete? You will relearn the hard way. As you prepare for war, prepare your body to squat properly too. Your body weight will have dropped significantly. That of your children is another story that is if they will arrived alive.
- It is in these camps that you will make your first encounter with the NGOs you currently imagining that would come to pick you by a chopper from your roof. You will realize how wrong you had been.
- It is here that you will start asking about Arody whom you knew to be working for a humanitarian organization to help you get more rations for your family in the tent. What you will not realize is that I will be in the same line, a refugee like you not because your tribe is same as mine. Not because your party is same as mine but because the effects of a war will care less who you supported or which tribe you belonged.
- We shall be equal in distress. We will learn of how war brings the worst form of human indignity. Together.
- You ask now I know these. Because I have been in the humanitarian world. I was in South Sudan in 2012. I am in South Sudan even now, again. Why? Not to grow taller but to be part of the people who want to bring change in the lives of the people displaced by war.
- Dear Kenyans, don’t imagine that war from an election is like chewing gum. And by the way, there are no crusades in war zones to pray for peace. The suffering will be so intense you will question your own faith and religious beliefs.
- And M-pesa will not be of any use in a refugee camp in a foreign country. Neither will be that local currency you will arrive with.
- Be an Esther, bold and courage enough to stand for the truth, to voice your opinion and fight for the good of others, even when it means to sacrifice yourself. If God has put you in a position, it is for a purpose. Never be afraid to heed to that inner voice.
- Be a Ruth. Loyal in all your relationships, walk the extra mile and don’t quit when things get tough. Someday, you’ll see why it was all worth the effort.
- Be a Lydia, Let your homes be open, let your hands be generous, let your heart be big enough to help anyone in need. Joy is greatest when shared.
- Be a Hannah, never cease to pray. It will never be in vain.
- Be a Mary, Humble and submissive. You don’t have to be great for God to use you, you just need to obey.
- Be a Dorcas, use your talents, however small it may seem to bring a smile on someone’s face. You’ll never know how much it can mean to someone.
- Be an Abigail, remember how each decision can turn your life around for good or bad. Be wise.
- Be an Elizabeth, never doubt what God can do. Miracles do happen.
- Be a Mary Magdalene, never let your mistakes and judgments of other people stop you from experiencing true joy in Jesus.
